Our responsibly produced leather

The selection of the finest materials for our backpacks was a crucial step for us, with a particular focus on using high-quality leather and finding a supplier that ensures responsible leather production.

After carefully assessing, we decided to source our genuine leather from a family-owned tannery in Italy. Here are some noteworthy aspects of our leather sourcing:

  • Environmental Responsibility: The tannery places a strong emphasis on minimizing its environmental footprint. It proudly holds the LWG certification, an industry-leading environmental certification for leather manufacturing.
  • Sustainable Vision: Committed to achieving the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, this tannery actively addresses pressing global challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, inequality, and poverty. See more here: https://sdgs.un.org/goals
  • Transparency and Accountability: The tannery's Sustainability Report is based on the International Standard ISO 26000 guidelines. This ensures transparency and accountability by analyzing the environmental, social, and economic impacts generated by the company.
  • European Sourcing: All leather hides used in our products are sourced exclusively from Europe, upholding our commitment to quality and responsible leather production.

Why not produce with vegan/synthetic leather?

We believe using genuine leather is sustainable because it utilizes hides, which otherwise are a waste product from the food industry. Options like vegan leather often contain significant parts of PU and PVC, which are basically plastic. Furthermore, the longevity, look and feel of vegan/synthetic leather have not reached the level of genuine leather. For these reasons, we do not choose to produce our leather goods with vegan leather.

Production & fair working conditions

We care a lot about people, and it was always very clear to us that we needed to find the right producer which could ensure fair working conditions for their workers. Our producer is a small family-owned company located in northern Italy. We can see in person all the processes it takes to manufacture our backpacks and plan periodical visits during the year to follow the production phases. We want to trust our suppliers because they are responsible for making the product we believe in.

Reducing pollution

Having all of the production and materials sourced in Italy reduces our carbon footprint for the environment. Furthermore, high-quality, long-lasting products prove to be excellent second-hand items, thereby reducing waste and counteracting mass consumption in the fashion world.
